Radon is a gas of natural origin that is odourless, colourless and tasteless, and therefore cannot be perceived by our senses. Prolonged exposure to this gas can cause serious health damage, increasing the risk of developing lung cancer, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The European Union has urged Italy to prepare a plan 'against Radon gas' to be implemented by 2031, which includes measuring the concentration levels of the gas in the territory and then assessing measures to intervene.
