METRA Building ennobles the qualities of aluminum through the production of the green alloys METRA RE.AL.E.
An innovative range of low-carbon alloys has been developed by METRA as part of a highly integrated and controlled supply chain. Produced at METRA's headquarters, RE.AL.E. alloys represent a development that looks increasingly toward sustainability.
The name of the alloys themselves was chosen to immediately recall their purpose, combining three aspects of METRA's long-established core business: REcycle ALuminum Extrusion. The acronym thus created forms the term "real," which underscores the commitment and ability of METRA and its dedicated business unit, METRA Building, to provide authentic and concrete solutions in the area of sustainability.
METRA RE.AL.E alloys are the tangible result of the company's constant quest to reduce environmental impact and promote energy efficiency. Real, like the circularity in METRA's supply chain, present at every stage: extrusion, waste recovery, casting and production. METRA RE.AL.E's low-carbon alloys are declined into three types of alloys, one of them in three "recipes" depending on the type and amount of recycled material fed into the melting furnaces.
The company's transparent measurement of emissions, led to the Carbon Footprint and EPD certifications of RE.AL.E alloys.
The evaluation of the carbon footprint and EPD of different types of RE.AL.E. aluminum alloy billets composed of different primary and secondary aluminum content (recycled aluminum) is based on a "cradle-to-gate" LCA model.
In the assessment aimed at awarding Carbon footprint and EPD certifications, the different stages of the billet life cycle are considered: from the extraction of raw materials to the manufacture of pre-products considering together also the consumption of energy and transportation of pre-products to the production site.
Importantly, RE.AL.E. alloys are recognized with a double EPD certification, one for the UK market issued by BREEAM and one for the European market issued by EPD Italy.
