Faser FIBER-COND for the Hotel Des Etrangers in Syracuse
The Hotel Des Etrangers is a historic hotel dating from 1906, distinguished by its Art Nouveau and neoclassical style, which reigned over the island of Ortigia for years. Representing the height of elegance and refinement in the reception of elite tourism by virtue of its strategic location, the building was then plagued for years by troubled and complex management histories, eventually reaching a period of abandonment. Today, it has finally been brought back to life, thanks to a multi-million dollar investment that has restored it to the height of its splendour.
For the refurbishment of the Hotel Des Etrangers' mechanical installations, Aquatechnik's FIBER-COND faser pipes were chosen.
Design choices: the advantages of installation with PP-RCT WOR systems
The new air-conditioning system of the Hotel Des Estrangers has been realised by the company Copia srl of Catania, which has chosen faser FIBER-COND piping from the fusio-technik system. The building consists of 76 rooms and, for each room, a double hydronic and expansion air conditioning system has been installed.
Compared to conventional materials such as steel and copper, PP-RCT offers many technical and performance advantages, in an application range from the civil to the industrial sector. It is a light and easy-to-carry material with guaranteed joints thanks to polyfusion.
Aquatechnik's evolution of multilayer pipes guarantees additional performance, thanks to the WOR (White Oxidation Resistance) technology used in the pipes, which, unlike traditional EVOH barrier systems, does not require the removal of the outer film before polyfusion, making this operation faster and at the same time safer. The reduction of linear thermal expansion by 70% compared to single-layer pipes results in a drastic reduction in clamping costs, bringing further savings in time and money.
Faser FIBER-COND for mechanical installations
Faser FIBER-COND pipe is particularly suitable for mechanical and air conditioning installations. It consists of three layers: the middle layer, with special fibres, ensures the reduction of thermal expansion, the outer layer in PP-R 80 Super gives ductility, while the inner layer, with the addition of antioxidant additive packages, has high chemical and long-term resistance.
Among its distinguishing features is its resistance to high temperatures. The operating conditions are superior, at the same thickness, compared to single-layer pipes: the combination PP-RCT + WOR guarantees an increase in performance from 20% (use with cold water) to 50% (use with hot water).
With a thermal conductivity at 20°C of ? 0.190 W/mK and an expansion coefficient of a 0.035 mm/mK, combined with an internal roughness of only 0.007 mm, the performance advantages are obvious.
Faser FIBER-COND pipes, made of PP-RCT and PP-R 80 Super fibre-reinforced, are assembled by polyfusion with welded and threaded fittings. Available from diameter 32 to 315 mm, they are characterised by their white colour with grey external stripes. Manufactured with reference to the requirements of EN ISO 15874, DIN 8077-8078, ASTM F2389 (regarding dimensions and pressure ranges for polypropylene pipes), it is also the first fibre-reinforced PP-R pipe certified by IIP, ICCES and Lloyd's Register.
