Green Pea - The world's first Green Retail Park dedicated to the theme of Respect

Location and climate: Metropolitan area
Climatic zone: E
Masonry: Ecopor® SSC 30x25x19

It is located in Turin, the innovative city of Italy, at Lingotto, next to the first Eataly opened in 2007: 15,000 m² of sustainable products that respect the earth, air, water and people.

This small legume is the symbol of Respect: round like the Earth and green like our Planet should be.

THE PROJECT

15,000 m² on 5 floors, dedicated to changing the relationship with energy, movement, home, clothing and leisure.

More than 100 partners and a green pea on every product on sale. The offer on the 5 floors, namely Life, Home, Fashion, Beauty and Otium Pea Club.

The Green Pea building has been designed as an innovative and resilient element, sustainable in every detail, so that the building can breathe and let people breathe, in harmony with human beings and natural elements.

The project developed by architects Cristiana Catino - ACC Naturale Architettura - and Carlo Grometto - Negozio Blu Architetti Associati - went one step further: it created a place with the characteristics of a natural organism, such as no other exists. A building, featuring more than 2,000 trees, plants and shrubs, that invites people to discover the world of sustainability, demonstrating its beauty.

THE ENERGY OPERATION OF THE BUILDING

The engineer Gabriele Gerbi - studio S.A.P.I. - plant, fire and energy designer of the Green Pea project, has declined the fundamental concepts of sustainability and respect even in the most technical parts of the building. The Green Pea building demonstrates the effectiveness of energy production through the use of renewable sources that guarantee high efficiency and reduction of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

In fact, the building is powered by geothermal wells, photovoltaic and solar panels, and elements for capturing wind energy and recovering kinetic energy.

Below are the energy characteristics of the Green Pea building that led to an ITACA certification with a score above 3:

  • NZEB Nearly Zero Energy Building, Class A3
  • Thermal energy produced by geothermal plant: 1,848,697.13 kWh
  • Domestic hot water: thermal energy requirement 187,484.77 kWh of which 87.81% = 164,630.38 kWh from renewable sources
  • Heating: thermal energy demand 1,900,967.095 kWh of which 88.59% = 1,684,066.75 kWh from renewable sources
  • Electricity from photovoltaics: 140,530.59 kWh
  • Lighting: electricity requirements 156,232.20 kWh of which 89.94% = 140,530.59 kWh from renewable sources
  • All energy not produced by Green Pea is Green certified by Iren

The tradition and sustainability of Ecopor® bricks at the basis of highly innovative project

Ecopor SSC 30x25x19 was used in the Green Pea project, a solution that combines sustainability and energy efficiency.

  • Sustainability: raw material consisting exclusively of clay and wood flour.
  • Energy efficiency: wood flour lightening, lower baffle thickness and high number of air chambers
